Biography
A disciple of late SMT Neila Sathyalingam [Founder of Apsaras Arts Premier Performing Arts Company, Singapore], Iswarya Jayakumar has been learning Indian Classical Dance [Bharathanatyam] since the tender age of three. She completed her Arangetram (Dance Graduation) at the age of 16, has performed over 400 stage performances locally and internationally, and conducted dance workshops in Malaysia, Australia, Canada, Switzerland and the United Kingdom (UK).
Apart from exploring the nuances of Bharathanatyam, she has also furthered her knowledge into areas of Neo – Bharatham, Indian Martial Arts, Gaana (South Indian Street Dance), Folk Dance and Bollywood. Iswarya Jayakumar is a School of the Arts, Singapore (SOTA) graduate with an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, where she also specialized in Dance Movements such as Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Flamenco Dance, Chinese Dance, and Contact Improvisation and Choreography. She graduated from Newcastle University, UK with a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2017.
During her stint in the UK, she had the privilege of leading a team of dancers from Newcastle University to participate in multiple competitions such as the prestigious ‘Battle of Bollywood’, where they were placed first runners-up and she was awarded a special talent award by Terence Lewis which gave her the opportunity to be a part of his academy under the performance scholarship programme in Mumbai for three months. Furthermore, she was scouted by Mr Anthony Mitchell, the Founder of the prestigious UK Dance Elite Championship (UKDEC) to be a part of UKDEC 2016. She has also been selected to be featured in a German TV movie entitled Das Gespenst von Cassley and Loveyatri, a Bollywood film produced by Salman Khan productions.
Through her engagements in the UK, She has been able to network with artistes and organizers from across the country, allowing her to liaise with them and create opportunities as shown through her collaboration with TURI Events Consultancy Ltd, UK for Battle of Bollywood 4, where her team 'Sher-e-Singapore' won the championship title in London on 17th March 2018. She has also worked with and performed alongside artistes such as Vaibhabi Merchant, Jeya Raveendran, Terence Lewis, Sonali Bhadauria, Sophia Akkara and Anirudh Ravichander.
